Choosing a
Digital Cable
Best performance is obtained when operating the Wadia Digital Volume Control in the top half of its range. If needed, the maximum output level of your Wadia 850 can be adjusted to match the overall sensitivity of your system so that the critical listening will take place with the volume control operating in the top half of its range.
The maximum output level of the Wadia 850 Compact Disc Player is adjust- able by means of a set of internal switches. The Wadia 850 is factory set at
The output level is not user adjustable. If you would like to change the output level, consult your dealer.
Your Wadia 850 Compact Disc Player can be retrofitted to include digital inputs and/or outputs. Consult your dealer for information on this option.
If your Wadia 850 is equipped with the optional digital inputs, the configuration is as follows:
Input 1:
Input 2: Coaxial with BNC connector
Input 3: Coaxial with BNC connector
Input 4:
The Wadia 850 will automatically adjust to the sampling rate of any of the standard digital audio formats.
If your Wadia 850 is equipped with the optional digital outputs, the configuration is as follows:
Output 1:
Output 2: Coaxial with BNC connector
The digital output signal is active at all times when a CD is playing in the transport.
While the Wadia 850 supports several transmission formats for digital audio, we recommend using a high quality
Based on our experience, here is a list of digital interface methods in descending order of performance:
1.Glass optical
(as implemented by Wadia, with high quality glass optical cable)
2.Coaxial cable using BNC connector
3.Coaxial cable using RCA connector
4.TOSLINK
The quality of any of these transmission methods depends on the quality of the cable and the sophistication of the transmitter and receiver.
If you are using a coaxial cable we recommend that you have the cable terminated with a BNC connector. This will provide higher performance than an RCA connector. If you purchased the optional digital inputs or outputs, an RCA/BNC adaptor is provided. The adaptor can be used for experimentation between different types of coaxial cables.
Again, we highly recommend that you take advantage of your dealer’s experience and, most importantly, trust your ears.
