Leveling the Deck

NOTE:Checkthe tractor'stire pressurebeforeperform- inganydeck levelingadjustments.Referto Tires on page26 for informationregardingtire pressure.

Front To Rear

Thefrontof the cuttingdeck issupportedbya stabilizer barthatcanadjustedto levelthe deckfromfrontto rear. Thefrontof the deckshouldbebetween1/4-inchand 3/8-inchlowerthanthe rearof the deck.Adjustif neces- saryas follows:

1.Withthe tractorparkedona firm,levelsurface,place the deck liftleverin the top notch(highestposition) androtatethe bladenearestthe dischargechuteso that itis paraIMwiththe tractor.

2.Measurethe distancefromthe frontofthe bladetip to

the groundandthe rearof the bladetip to the ground. Thefirst measurementtakenshouldbebetween

1/4"and 3/8" lessthan thesecondmeasurement. Determinethe approximatedistancenecessaryfor properadjustmentandproceed,if necessary,to the nextstep.

3.Fromthe frontof thetractor,loosenthe hexlocknut oneachendof thedeck hangerrod,andturnaway fromthe innerhex nuts.SeeFigure14.

4.Tightenthe innerhex nutsfrontagainstthe front

hangerbracketto raisethe frontof the deck;loosen the hexnutsto lowerthe frontof the deck.

NOTE:Modelswitha 42-inchdeckhaveonlyONEjam nut,washer,and locknut.

5.Retightenthe two locknutsagainstthe innerhexnuts whenproperadjustmentis achieved.

Side to Side

If the cuttingdeckappearsto bemowingunevenly,a side to sideadjustmentcan beperformed.Adjustif necessary as follows:

1.Withthe tractorparkedona firm,levelsurface,place the decklift leverin the top notch(highestposition) androtateboth bladesso thattheyareperpendicular withthe tractor.

2.Measurethe distancefromthe outsideof the leftblade tip to the groundandthe distancefromtheoutside d the rightbladetip to theground.Bothmeasurements takenshouldbeequal. Ifthey'renot,proceedto the nextstep.

3.Loosen,butdo NOTremove,the hexcap screwon the leftdeckhangerbracket.SeeFigure15.

4.Balancethe deckby usingawrenchto turn the adjustmentgear (foundimmediatelybehindthe hex cap screwjust loosened)clockwise/uporcounter- clockwise/down.Thedeckis properlybalancedwhen bothbladetip measurementstakenearlierareequal.

5.Retightenthe hex capscrewonthe left deckhanger bracketwhenproperadjustmentis achieved.
