SEARCH METHODS

HELPFUL HINTS

Raising the coil vertically in the air is another method of reducing the target size (as seen by the detector) and pinpointing the target. Because the area of greatest sensitivity is in the center of the search coil, it isvery easy to pinpoint the location of any metallic object, large or small. Also, see the section on Pinpointing, beginning on page 12.

1.Hold the search coil about 1 inch or less above the ground and begin your search by sweeping back and forth as shown on page 10.

2.Keep the search coil parallel to and as close to the ground as possible.

3.Overlap your sweeps for uniform depth penetration.

4.Search slowly and systematically. Pay attention to where you are going and where you have been.

5.During your search, the meter reading should remain at about 10 for maximum sensitivity. However, as you pass over changing ground mineralization or metallic trash, the needle may drift up or down slightly. A quick push of the RETUNE button will instantly retune the M-96 to its “threshold” sound.

SEARCHING IN WATER

The search coil is waterproof and the lower handle may be used in water; however, the water must not contract the cable connection at the box, nor should the box itself be immersed.

If you are searching in salt water, be sure to flush the lower handle with fresh water after every use. If not, continual exposure to salt water may cause the nut to freeze up.

M-96 specifications

The Fisher M-96 is a high-performance metal detector designed for both amateur and professional treasure seekers. This device boasts an array of features and technologies that enhance the user experience and improve detection capabilities.

One of the standout characteristics of the Fisher M-96 is its advanced discrimination capabilities. This feature allows users to differentiate between valuable metals, such as gold and silver, and unwanted materials like iron or aluminum. The detector's adjustable discrimination settings enable tailored searches based on the specific environment, allowing treasure hunters to focus their efforts efficiently.

The M-96 also includes a powerful VLF (Very Low Frequency) technology that boosts sensitivity for small and deeply buried targets. This technology is particularly beneficial for those searching for coins, relics, and jewelry. The device operates at a frequency of 12 kHz, which strikes an optimal balance between depth and sensitivity, ensuring users can detect various metals without compromising performance.

Another notable aspect of the Fisher M-96 is its target ID system. The LCD screen displays a numerical value correlating to the type of metal detected, providing users with immediate feedback on potential finds. This visual aid assists in decision-making during searches, enhancing the overall efficiency of the treasure-hunting process.

Portability is a significant advantage of the M-96. Weighing in at just over 2.5 pounds (approximately 1.13 kg), this lightweight detector is easy to carry for extended periods without causing fatigue. The adjustable telescoping shaft allows users of different heights to find a comfortable position, further enhancing ergonomic usability.

The Fisher M-96 is also weather-resistant, making it suitable for use in various outdoor conditions. The device's durable construction ensures that it can withstand the rigors of outdoor adventures, including potential exposure to moisture and dust.

In terms of power, the Fisher M-96 is designed to be efficient, often functioning on standard batteries that provide extended usage times. Its energy efficiency allows for prolonged sessions without the need for frequent battery changes, making it a practical choice for avid detectorists.

Overall, the Fisher M-96 stands out as a versatile and reliable metal detector, combining advanced technology with user-friendly features. Its discrimination capabilities, target ID system, lightweight design, and weather resistance make it an excellent option for anyone looking to explore the world of treasure hunting. Whether searching for relics, lost valuables, or simply enjoying a day outdoors, the Fisher M-96 provides an engaging and rewarding experience.
