7 – Entering names

Caution

If you turn off the power without finalizing after entering a name, the TOC will not be written, and the name you entered will be discarded. You must execute the finalize operation to write the TOC.

You can use the “TEXT EDIT?” menu item to enter a name for a disc or track.

Naming a disc

Here’s how to assign a name to a CD-R/CD-RW disc.

1While stopped, access the “TEXT EDIT?” menu item and press the ENTER button.

The display will indicate “Text> XXX” (you can choose Disc or a track number 01–99).

2Press the ENTER button, and use the MULTI JOG dial (or the SKIP buttons on the remote control unit) to select “Text> Disc”.

3Press the ENTER button.

The character display area will show the current disc name, and name edit mode will be active (the cursor will blink).

4Enter a name as described below, and press the MENU button on the front panel (or the MENU button on the remote control unit) to finalize your input.

In name edit mode, you can assign a name as follows.

To select the type of characters

Press the DISPLAY button on the front panel or remote control unit to switch between the following two types of characters.

Lowercase alphabet/Symbols (nothing shown in display)

Uppercase alphabet/Symbols (“CAPS” lit in dis- play)

To enter characters

Use the MULTI JOG dial (or the SKIP buttons on the remote control unit) to select characters, and press the ENTER button to confirm your choice.

To move the cursor

Use the SYNC REC/< button or FADER/> button.

Pressing the SYNC REC/< button moves the cursor to the left, and pressing the FADER/> button moves the cursor to the right.

You can also use the remote control unit SYNC REC or FADER buttons to move the cursor.

To delete characters

Move the cursor to the character you want to delete, and press the ERASE/DEL button (or the ERASE button on the remote control unit).

To insert characters

Locate the cursor on where you want to insert a char- acter, and press the FINALIZE/INS button (or the FINALIZE button on the remote control unit).

To correct characters

Move the cursor to the character you want to correct, and enter the desired character.

If you’ve edited text and then attempt to remove the disc without writing the TOC, a message of Sure? Text! will appear. If you want to remove the disc with-

out writing the TOC, press the (Open/Close) but- ton once again while the Sure? Text! message is shown (the text you entered will be discarded).
