SLC-5 U-BR1TE

I S D N R a n g e E x t e n s i o n

The ADTRAN SLC-5 U-BR1TE is an ISDN range extension product for delivering Basic Rate ISDN to remote locations across SLC Series 5 Digital Loop Carrier (DLC) systems. In addition, the U-BR1TE will operate in SLC Series 2000 DLC configured for SLC Mode 1 operation. The SLC-5 U-BR1TE provides a standard U-interface that operates at 160 kbps full-duplex over a single twisted pair. The U-interface converts to a three DS0 format, allowing transportation of 2B+D data as well as end-to-end maintenance, per-

formance, and test information. The ADTRAN SLC-5 U-BR1TE operates in both Central Office Terminals (COT) and the Remote Terminals (RT); con- forms to applicable standards and requirements; and performs all Layer 1 maintenance and performance monitoring functions per TR-NWT-00397 and TR-NWT-000829. The SLC-5 U-BR1TE provides a distinctive metallic DC test signature for identifying the LT or NT operating mode and is com- patible with the Metallic Loop Test (MLT).

The SLC-5 U-BR1TE occupies one physical slot in a SLC-5 channel bank. To deliver 2B+D service, the SLC-5 U-BR1TE uses the DS0 time slots associated with the occupied physical slot and the required remaining time slots of the adjacent physical slot. SLC-T U-BR1TE provides a NULL function which allows an older SLC-5 channel bank to provide 2B+D ISDN without upgrading the common equipment. The SLC-5 U-BR1TE meets the 1s density requirements of the T1 carrier system through zero byte substi- tution and associated flags in the D channel DS0 time slot as specified in TR-NWT-000397.

Maintenance, testing, and status information is displayed on the front panel. An RJ-45 jack provides DS0 access to B1 and B2 for testing with standard digital test sets. The rotary Address Select Knob along with a DS0 test set allows for local B1 or B2 loopback test access of up to six ISDN net- work addresses and the NT1 in the network-to-customer direction. The CR and LP indicators provide instantaneous synchronization and loopback status for the T1 carrier facility (CR) and the U-interface (LP) and the status of the Layer 1 activation is provided with ACT indicator. The ADTRAN SLC-5 responds to network initiated mp-eoc commands including B1, B2, and 2B+D loopbacks.
