Architectural Specification

High Security Key System

General requirements:

1.Provide a high security key system capable of integrating various type of lock cylinders; mogul, builder hard- ware, and auxiliary locks, into a patented, geographically restricted, factory master keyed system to allow con- trol over the entire facility.

a.Include detention mogul cylinders, builders hardware cylinders, auxiliary locks, and padlocks keyed into one compatible system for locks specified in this section and those specified in related sections.

b.Proprietary Keyway: Provide written guarantee from the manufacturer that the Keyway used on this proj- ect is for the exclusive use of the Owner on a regional basis..

2.Master Keying

a.Provide level 3 grandmaster key system. As defined in (DHI) "Keying Systems and Nomenclature".

b.Provide factory established key system and keying of cylinders.

1).Arrange for manufacturer to maintain permanent key identification and registration records.

3.Keys

a.Replacement Keys: available only from the manufacturer upon written authorization from the Owner.

b.Stamping of Keys: Stamp keys with an identification code in accordance with "Keying Procedures, Systems, and Nomenclature" published by DHI.

c.Quantity:

1)Change keys:

a.Allow for four (4) change keys per lock cylinder.

b.Furnish a minimum of six (6) keys per key set, remaining keys as instructed by the Owner.

2)Master level keys:

a.Furnish a minimum of ten (10) of each masterkey and six (6) of each master level key above the grandmaster.

d.Material: Nickel silver alloy.

e.Minimum size: 1" x 3" long 1/8 "thick,

4.Cylinders

a.Marking of Cylinders: Using a black indelible ink pen, mark body of cylinders with an identification code in accordance with "Keying Procedures, Systems, and Nomenclature" published by DHI.

b.Standard compliance

1)Listed under UL 437.

2)ANSI/BHMA A156.30 standard for High Security Cylinders.

3)ASTM 1577 6.6 standards for Correctional Cylinders

5.Temporary Construction Security

a.Provide temporary construction cylinders and keys for exterior doors, automatically locking doors where security is required, and doors to rooms used for storage.

1)Temporary cylinders and keys remain the property of the contractor.

b.Provide temporary blank strike plates for lock bolt receivers to prevent automatic locking of doors where temporary construction cylinders are not used and security at the door during construction is not required..
