2.3.3Installing the CPU heatsink and fan assembly
The AMD® Opteron™ 4100 series processors require a specially designed heatsink and fan assembly to ensure optimum thermal condition and performance.
• Ensure to use qualified heatsink and fan assembly only.
•Ensure that you have applied the thermal grease to the top of the CPU before installing the heatsink and fan assembly.
To install the CPU heatsink and fan assembly:
1.Ensure that the retension module base is installed on the motherboard. Refer to the previous section for the retension module installation.
2.Place the heatsink and fan assembly on top of the installed CPU, ensuring that the heatsink fits properly on the retention module base.
If you purchased a separate CPU heatsink and fan assembly, ensure that a Thermal Interface Material is properly applied to the CPU heatsink or CPU before you install the heatsink and fan assembly.

Your boxed CPU heatsink and fan assembly should come with installation instructions for the CPU, heatsink, and the retention mechanism. If the instructions in this section do not match the CPU documentation, follow the latter.
