OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

F

Filling with paint (F, G & H)

CAUTION: Do not use the unit without the paint

applicator securely attached.

Note: Use drop cloths to protect your floors and anything else in

the room that you do not want accidentally splattered with paint.

Note: Skin that forms on the top of paint can clog the

paint edger. Remove this skin before mixing. Strain using a

funnel with a filter attached or through hosiery to remove any

impurities that could clog the system.

G

• Pull locking tabs (12) on the fill sleeve (11) down, slide the

paint tube into the fill sleeve as shown in figure F.

• Squeeze and hold locking tabs together on the fill sleeve

to secure the paint tube in place. Lower the tip of the fill

sleeve into the paint container.

• Fill the paint tube by slowly pulling back the plunger as

shown in figure G.

Note: Do not over pull the plunger. The paint tube has a

stop which makes it very difficult to pull the plunger out.

H

• Remove the paint tube from the fill sleeve. Pull the plunger

back slightly to avoid paint dripping out.

Note: Wipe any excess paint from the paint tube before

reinserting into the paint edger.

Note: Paint sleeve will have excess paint on it. Store on

lid or on the side of the paint can with its built in clips (13) as

shown in figure H.

Painting with the Paint Edger (I, J & K)

• Install the paint applicator.

I

• Set the flow control knob (3) to the minimum flow setting of

“1” as shown in figure I.

• Fill the paint tube with paint.

• Install the paint tube in the main body.

• Pull the trigger (2). Paint will start to flow slowly into the

paint applicator as shown in figure J. If no paint appears,

increase flow rate by turning flow control knob in single

numerical increments towards 10 until paint saturates the

paint applicator pad.

Note: Once paint is showing on the paint applicator’s foam

J

pad, it is ready to use.

• Keeping the paint applicator flat against the wall.

• Start away from the edge you wish to paint to ensure paint

coverage is appropriate. Pull the trigger and slowly move

the paint edger in toward the edge you are painting as

shown in figure K.

• Increase the flow of paint to the desired amount by turning the

flow control knob in single numerical increments from 1-10.

Note: Do not push too hard or the unit will have poor

K

coverage. The unit will sound overloaded when pushed too

hard. Let the paint applicator float over the surface.

Note: Temperature and the type of paint being used will

affect the flow rate. Alter both the flow of paint and the speed

at which you move the paint edger to achieve the best results.

• Using too much paint or moving the edger too slowly

will cause a bead of paint to appear on the edges of the

painted surface. Using a paint brush, roller or the edger’s

applicator pad unpowered on the painted surface, smooth

L

the bead lines with soft strokes as shown in figure L.

• Using too little paint or moving the edger too quickly will

result in thin coverage and possible streaking. Increase

the flow of paint to the desired amount by turning the flow

control knob in single numerical increments towards 10.

NOTE: Do not pick up or hold paint edger by the paint tube.

Hints for optimum use

• For optimum performance keep the paint edger

perpendicular to the surface being painted as shown in

figure M. If the rear of the paint edger is tilted up or down

M

this will overload the unit and it will result in poor paint

coverage and sound under powered.

90o

• Always hold the paint applicator flat against the surface.

• The paint edger can be angled left or right to enable a clear

view of the edge being painted.

• Always use steady movements.

90o

• As required, wipe excess paint from the edges of the paint applicator.

• If the paint applicator is sliding on the surface, apply less paint

by turning the flow control knob to a lower numerical setting.

• When not in use, pull the plunger drive to the back of the main body of the paint edger and

clip it in place.

• When leaving the paint edger unattended for a longer period of time, wrap the paint

applicator in a plastic bag to prevent drying, removing as much air as possible from the bag.

• Make sure the type of paint you use can be cleaned with a warm water and soap solution.

Returning excess paint to paint can.

• Pull the plunger drive to the back of the main body of the paint edger and clip it in place.

• Slide the paint tube out of the main body of the paint edger.

• Hold the paint tube over the paint can and gently push down on the plunger to return paint to the can. NOTE: Do not store paint in the paint tube.

Maintenance and cleaning

Your Black & Decker cordless appliance has been designed to operate over a long period of time with a minimum of maintenance.

Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon proper appliance care and regular cleaning.

WARNING: Before performing any maintenance or cleaning on cordless appliances

switch off and remove the batteries from the appliance.

• The paint applicator should be removed when storing the product.

• Wipe the paint edger main body using a soft damp cloth.

• For stubborn marks you can use a mild solution of soap and water to dampen your cloth.

• Paint applicator and paint tube can be washed in warm soapy water, however this will

have a negative effect on the performance of your tool. To maintain the highest level of

performance the paint applicator and paint tube should be replaced after every job.
