CHAPTER 5: Operation

5. Operation

Once the ServSwitch Brand Fiber KVM Extender II or II-SM is installed and powered, it will perform keyboard/video/mouse extension to the remote site continuously. It will also perform ongoing keyboard/mouse switching if you have both local and remote user stations attached. The extender will display these indications:

The Status LED on the front of the local unit will be steadily lit during normal operation; it will flash if no video signal is being received from the CPU.

The Status LED on the front of the remote unit will be steadily lit during normal operation; it will flash (and “NO SIGNAL” will appear on the remote monitor) if no video signal is being received from the local unit. (“NO FIBER LINK” will appear on the remote monitor if the remote unit is unable to detect the presence of the local unit at all. This might happen if the local unit loses power or the fiber cabling is disconnected or damaged.)

BLACK BOX ServSwitch Brand KVM Extender, ACS251A-R2, ACS250A-R2 specifications

The Black Box ACS250A-R2 and ACS251A-R2, part of the renowned Black Box ServSwitch brand, are sophisticated KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) extenders designed to enhance the connectivity and management of computers in various settings. These devices enable users to control multiple computers from a distance, making them essential for data centers, IT environments, and any operation requiring high efficiency and technology integration.

One of the main features of the ACS250A-R2 and ACS251A-R2 is their ability to extend video signals up to 150 meters (approximately 500 feet) over a single Cat5e or Cat6 cable, which reduces the clutter of multiple cables while ensuring high-quality video output. This capability allows users to position their computers in secure or controlled environments while maintaining access from a remote location. This not only enhances security but also contributes to better thermal management and reduced noise levels in the workspace.

The ACS250A-R2 supports a resolution of up to 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz, ensuring crystal-clear visuals whether for intricate graphics applications or standard desktop activities. In contrast, the ACS251A-R2 can achieve even higher resolutions, making it suitable for high-definition applications. Both models include plug-and-play functionality, allowing for easy installation without the need for additional software or drivers.

In terms of durability and performance, both models are equipped with advanced technologies such as video compression algorithms to reduce latency and improve signal integrity, ensuring that users experience seamless operation. Additionally, they are designed to be robust and reliable, making them ideal for mission-critical applications where downtime can lead to significant losses.

The KVM extenders also support USB 2.0 peripherals, allowing users to connect various devices, including printers and flash drives, enhancing the versatility of their system. With support for multiple operating systems, these extenders are an excellent choice for diverse IT environments, compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux systems alike.

Overall, the Black Box ACS250A-R2 and ACS251A-R2 KVM extenders encapsulate a blend of advanced features, reliability, and performance efficiency. They serve as powerful solutions for extending KVM capabilities, making them indispensable tools in modern IT infrastructure management.
