G.SHDSL Two-Wire Ethernet Network Extender

4. Console Configuration

The LR0201A-KIT has an RS-232C console port so users can monitor the OA&M status through a VT100 terminal. This section covers the operating procedures and settings for all screen selections.

Connect the RS-232 cable to the COM port of the computer as shown in Figure 4-1. Set the personal computer to VT100 or VT102 type through HyperTerminal. Press the <ESCAPE> key and the main menu will be shown on the screen of the terminal. The terminal operations can then start.

If you press tthe <ESCAPE> key and the terminal’s screen does not display, the COM port setting might be incorrect. Choose the right COM port (COM1 or COM2) on the computer, and press the <ESCAPE> key again to make sure that the main menu appears on the terminal screen.

NOTE: Set the COM port to 9600 bps, no parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no flow control.

BLACK BOX G.SHDSL Two-Wire Ethernet Network Extender, LR0201A-KIT specifications

The Black Box LR0201A-KIT is a robust G.SHDSL two-wire Ethernet network extender designed to enhance communication over extended distances while maintaining high data integrity and transfer speeds. This device is particularly beneficial in scenarios where traditional Ethernet connections fall short, such as in large facilities, campuses, or in areas where coaxial cabling is impractical or impossible to implement.

One of the main features of the LR0201A-KIT is its adherence to the G.SHDSL standard, which allows for symmetric data rates up to 5.7 Mbps over a single pair of copper wires. This makes it an ideal solution for both upload and download tasks, ensuring that businesses can maintain consistent, high-speed internet connectivity for applications such as video conferencing, VoIP, and large file transfers.

The extender is designed for ease of use, with a plug-and-play installation process that minimizes deployment time and reduces the need for specialized technical knowledge. Additionally, it supports a range of operating distances, providing connectivity over 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) depending on the quality of the existing wiring infrastructure. This flexibility allows for versatile deployment in widely varying environments.

Equipped with dual Ethernet ports, the LR0201A-KIT can serve multiple devices simultaneously, effectively distributing network access across different systems. The device also features built-in diagnostics and LED indicators for power, connection status, and data transmission, allowing for quick troubleshooting and monitoring of network performance.

Security is another pivotal aspect of the Black Box LR0201A-KIT, with support for advanced features such as VLAN tagging, ensuring that sensitive data remains protected during transmission. The ability to configure quality of service (QoS) parameters further enhances network performance by prioritizing critical data traffic.

In terms of construction, the unit is housed in a durable chassis designed to withstand various environmental conditions, making it suitable for deployment in both indoor and outdoor settings. Its compact size allows for easy integration into existing setups, ensuring that users canmaximize their space without compromising on performance.

In summary, the Black Box LR0201A-KIT is a reliable solution for organizations seeking to extend their Ethernet networks over long distances. With its combination of high-speed data transfer, user-friendly installation, dual-port capability, and robust security features, it stands out as a valuable tool for maintaining effective and efficient communications in diverse operational contexts.
