Water Connections continued
Hydrogen gas can be produced in an operating water heater that has not had water drawn from the tank for a long period of time generally two weeks or more. Hydrogen gas is extremely flammable. To prevent the possibility of injury under these conditions, we recommend the hot water faucet to be open for several minutes at the kitchen sink before you use any electrical appliance, which is connected to the hot water system. If hydrogen is present, there will be an unusual sound such as air escaping through the pipes as hot water begins to flow. Do not smoke or have open flame near the faucet at the time it is open
MATCH OR OPEN FLAME FOR TESTING
All electrical wiring and connections must be in accordance with the National Electric Code ANSI/NFPA No. 70 latest edition, or the Canadian Electrical Code C22.1 latest edition and any local codes, which may apply. The water heater must be electrically grounded

DANGER
Cast Iron Burner At the time of installation and at periodic intervals not more than 6 months, a visual check of the main burner and pilot flames should be made to determine if they are burning properly. For ideal operation, the gas and air must be properly proportioned. The proper air-gas mixture is obtained by adjusting the air shutter on the mixer face of the main burner See Figure 11. To adjust for proper burning, loosen the air shutter nut if provided, rotate shutter to close the opening in the burner then slowly rotate the shutter until the yellow tips disappear and the flame becomes blue. On 75-gallon models fired on LPG or propane, adjust the air shutter as described above until the yellow flame is minimized note-the burner flame may contain a mixture of yellow and blue. Tighten the air shutter nut if provided. Too much air will cause the flame to lift off the burner ports and create noisy operation. Too little air will result in soot formation. The main burner flame should light smoothly from the pilot
