Anode Inspection and Replacement
Anode Inspection and Replacement
1. Turnpower “OFF” to water heater.
2. Turnoff cold water supply to heater. Connect hose to drain spigot of water heater and route to an open drain.
Open a nearby hot water faucet to vent heater for draining. Open drainspigot of water heater and allow
heater todrain to a point below the anode locations at the top of the tank.
3. Close drain spigot and removehose.
4. Remove the plastic anodeaccess plugs at the anode locations.
5. Remove anode from the water heater (1-1/16" socket).
6. Visually Inspect anode. Anode should show signs of depletion, this is normal.
If depletionis ½ of the original anode diameter (original diameter approximately ¾”), replacement is
recommended. If any of thesteel core of the anode is exposed, replacement isrecommended.
7. Uponcompletion of inspection or subsequent replacement, reinstall anode into heater. resume water supply, refill
heater with water and check for leaks.
8. To resume operation,BE SURE HE ATER IS FULL OF W ATER and turn power “ON”to water heater.
