INSTALLATION

Step 1 — Thermostat Location
Thermostatshould be mounted:
SApproximately5 ft (1.5m)from floor.
SCloseto or in a frequentlyused room, preferablyon an inside
partitioning wall.
SOn a sectionof wall without pipesor duct work.
Thermostatshould NOT be mounted:
SCloseto a window, on an outside wall,or next to a door leading
tothe outside.
SExposedto direct light and heat fromthe sun, a lamp, fireplace,
or other heat--radiating object which may cau se a false reading.
SCloseto or in direct airflowfrom supply registersand return--air
grilles.
SInareas with poor aircirculation, suchas behind a door or in an
alcove.
Step 2 — Install Thermostat
ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARD
Failureto follow this warning couldresult in personal injury
ordeath.
Before installing thermostat, turn off all power to unit. There
maybe more than 1 disconnect.

!WARNING

1. Turn OFF all powerto unit.
2. If an existing thermo statis bein g replaced:
a. Remove ex isting thermostat from wall.
b. Disconnect wiresfrom existing thermostat,one at a
time. Be careful not to allow wires to fall back into wall.
c. As each wire is di sconnected, record wire color and
terminal marking.
d. Discard or recycle old thermo stat.
ENVIRONMENTALHAZARD
Failure to follow this caution may result in environmen tal
damage.
Mercury is a hazardous waste. Federalregulations require that
Mercurybe disposed of properly.

3. Separate frontand back (mounting base) assembly of ther-
mostat.
4. Route thermostat wires through hole in mounting base.
Level mounting base against w all (for aesthetic value only,
thermostatneed not be level for properoperation) and mark
wallthrough 2 mounting holes.
5. Drill two 3/16 --in. mounting holes in wall where marked.
6. Secure mountingbase to wall with 2 anchors andscrews
provided making sure all wires extend through hole in
plastic.
7. Strip 1/4 in. insulation from thermostat wire and adjust
length to reach terminal block connector on mounting base.
Match and connect proper wiring in accordan cew ithwi ring
diagrams.
8. Push any excess wire back into wall. Seal h ole in wall to
prevent air leaks. Leaks can affect th ermostat operation.
Any excess wire left inside thermostat casing may also af-
fect thermostat operation by interferin g with airflow across
thetemperature sensor.
9. Snap thermostattogether making sure terminalblock con-
nectoraligns, and assemblyis secure.
10. Turn on power to unit.
On power up, dependingon the thermostat model beingused, the
LCD readout will display either, AC or PC for air conditioner
model (1--stage heat/1--stagecool), or HP or PH for heat pump
model(2--stageheat/1--stagecool).
Step 3 — Set Thermostat Configu ration
Configuration options allow the installer to configure the
thermostat for a particular installation. T hese selections are
intended tobe made at installation and normallyare not modified
by the homeowner.Below is a list of availableoptions followedby
a description of each one.
Option01 -- Equipment Type
Option 03 -- Fahrenheit or Centigrade operation
Option 04 -- Enable fan (G) ON with heat (W)
Option10 -- O (reversing valve)On with Heat or Cool (present
on HeatPump model only)
Option13 -- Room temperatureoffset adjustment
Note that not all configuration option numbers are used in this
product.
ToEnter The Configuration Mode:
Press and holdFAN button for approximately10 sec until room
temperaturedisappears and thedisplay reads “01”. Youare now in
configurationmode.
NOTE: If FAN button is pressed again , or if no button is pressed
for 3 minutes, the thermostat will exit configuration mode and
return to normal operation.To re--enter configuration mode, the
FANbutton must be pressedand held for 10 sec again.
While in the configuration mode, th etemp erature display is used to
show both the option numb er and the selected choice within each
option. Eachpress of the H/C buttonalternates betweenthe option
number and the selection within that optio n. When the
configurationmode is first entered,option 01 is displayed.The up
and down buttons now move between the available option
numbers.Once an option number is selected,press the H/C button
once to display the currently selected choice within that o ption.
The up and down buttonsnow move between the availablechoices
within that option. After th e new choice is made, press the H/C
button again to return to the option numb erd isplay.Wh enfin ished
with option selections, press FAN button once to exit the
configurationmode.
Option 01 — Equipment Type
Selections: with HP th ermostat: HP,AC, P H, or PC
with AC thermostat: AC or PC
Meanings:
PH or PC selects PTAC units (Packaged Terminal Air
Conditioners)which are used in motel rooms and other
rented spaces. When this option is selected, the display
shows only the setpoint,not the room temperature. Also
the compressor timeguard is disabled, allowing the
compressortoturnonimmediatelywhenademandis
established.
HP or PH controls1 speed heat pump with1 stage of aux heat.
AC or PC controls1 speed air conditioner withone stage of heat.
Note that thisoption allows a HP thermostat to be convertedto
controlan AC system.
Option 03 — Fahrenheit/Centigrade Selection
This selection operates the thermostat in either Fahren heit or
Centigrade. Factory default is F.
