En se servant des boutons de DÉFILEMENT VERS LE HAUT, VERS LE BAS et d’ENTRÉE, il est facile de choisir le PAYS. Quand le pays approprié est affiché, appuyez sur le bouton d’ENTRÉE et choisissez la ville la plus proche du lieu où vous vous trouvez en appuyant sur le bouton d’ENTRÉE quand elle est affichée.

Etape 5: CHOISISSEZ ET CENTREZ UNE ÉTOILE

Une fois votre VILLE entrée, le message déroulant suivant indique CENTER STAR 2 [CENTRER L’ÉTOILE 2] puis d’appuyer sur ENTER [ENTRER]

Cela signifie que vous devrez choisir dans la liste le nom de votre « étoile guide », puis la centrer dans le champ du télescope (en déplaçant celui-ci à la main ou à l’aide des boutons de commande du moteur) et appuyer sur ENTER [ENTRER].

Il se peut que vous vous demandiez pourquoi le message se rapporte à l’« ÉTOILE 2 » et non pas à l’« ÉTOILE 1 ». C'est que nous utilisons le mode le plus rapide et simple à régler, l’ALIGN EARTH [ALIGNEMENT DE LA TERRE], qui ne demande que de repérer et centrer une seule étoile (à la différence du mode ALIGN STAR [ALIGNEMENT D’ÉTOILES] où il faut en repérer deux). Lorsque vous entrez l’heure, la date, le pays et la ville, c’est-à-dire des données ayant essentiellement remplacé la fonction de repérage de l’« ÉTOILE 1 », vous êtes en train d’utiliser des informations terrestres.

Si vous êtes dans l’hémisphère nord, l’étoile la plus facile à repérer et à utiliser par un astronome novice est probablement l’une des plus lumineuses de la célèbre constellation de la « Grande Ourse », tel que montré ci-dessous. Comme vous devez sûrement le savoir, les étoiles composant la Grande Ourse se trouvent près de l’étoile Polaire, appelée également étoile du Nord, qui est l’étoile située au centre du ciel nocturne (ou près) et que l’on voit juste au-dessus de nous. (Notez que selon la période de l’année, la Grande Ourse peut apparaître à l’envers dans le ciel ou dans des positions différentes de celle montrée ci-dessous) On peut
