Hyperthermia occurs when the internal temperature of the body reaches a level 3-6 degrees above the normal body temperature of 37 degrees C (98.6 degrees F) While hyperthermia has many health benefits, it is important not to allow your body’s core temperature to rise above 103 degrees F. Symptoms of excessive hyperthermia include dizziness, lethargy, drowsiness and fainting. The effects of excessive hyperthermia may include failure to perceive heat, failure to recognize the need to exit, unawareness of impending hazard, damage to pregnant women, physical inability to exit the unit and unconsciousness.
