confirmation light

Pressing the shutter button halfway activates AF operation and achieves focus once.

sThe AF point which achieves focus will flash briefly and the focus confirmation light in the viewfinder will light at the same time.

sWith evaluative metering, the exposure setting (shutter speed and aperture value) will be set when focus is achieved. The exposure setting and focus will be locked as long as the shutter button is pressed halfway. (p.50) You can then recompose the shot while retaining the exposure setting and point of focus.

If focus has not been achieved, the focus confirmation light <n> in the viewfinder will blink. In this case, you cannot take a picture even when you press the shutter button fully. Recompose the shot and try and focus again. Also see “When Autofocus Fails” (p.51).

AI Servo AF for Moving Subjects

While you press the shutter button halfway, the camera focuses continuously

This AF mode suits moving subjects when the focusing distance keeps changing.

sWith predictive AF, the camera can also focus track a subject which steadily approaches or retreats from the camera.

sThe exposure settings are set immediately before the picture is taken.
