Focusing Off-Center Subjects

After achieving focus, you can lock the focus on a subject and recompose the shot. This is called “focus lock.”

Focus lock works when the AF mode is set to One Shot AF.

1 Setmode.the camera to a Creative Zone

2Select the desired AF point.

3 Focus the subject.

Aim the AF point on the subject, then press the shutter button halfway.

4Keep pressing the shutter button halfway and recompose the picture as desired.

5 Take the picture.

Focus lock also works in the Basic Zone modes (except <P>). Just start from step 3 above.
