Selecting an AF Frame

The AF frame indicates the area of the composition on which the camera focuses. You can set the AF frame in the following ways.

You can have the camera automatically detect the position of a face and use this data to set the focus and exposure* while

Face shooting. In addition, the camera will meter

Detect the subject so that the face is correctly illuminated when the flash fires. If a face is

not detected, shooting will take place with [On].

* Only in evaluative metering mode (p. 48).

The camera automatically selects between On 9 AF frames to focus on according to the

shooting conditions.

The camera focuses using the center AF Off frame. This is convenient for making sure

the focus is exactly where you want it.
