5.INTRODUCTION TO BLUETOOTH® TECHNOLOGY

English

What is Bluetooth® wireless technology?

Bluetooth ® wireless technology is a radio technology that connects devices, such as mobile phones and headsets, without wires or cords over a short distance of approximately 10 meters (Approx. 33 feet). Get more information at www. bluetooth.com.

What is Bluetooth® wireless profiles?

Bluetooth ® wireless profiles are the different ways that Bluetooth® devices communicate with other devices. Bluetooth® phones support either the headset profile (HSP), the hands-free profile (HFP) or both. In order to support a certain profile, a phone manufacturer must implement certain mandatory features within the phone’s software. The followings are the currently supported profiles for BLT573.

Headset Profile (HSP)

This is the most commonly used profile, providing minimal controls including the ability to ring, answer a call, hangs up and adjusts the volume.

Hands-Free Profile (HFP)

This is commonly used to allow car hands-free kits to communicate with mobile phones in the car. The Bluetooth® car kits allow users with Bluetooth®- equipped cell phones to make use of some of the phone’s features, such as transfer calls.

Object Push Profile (OPP)

A basic profile for sending “objects”, such as contacts and virtual business cards. It is called push because the transfers are always instigated by the sender (Client), not the receiver (Server).

What is pairing?

Bluetooth® devices will not work if the devices have not been paired.

With a mobile phone featuring Bluetooth ® technology, you must ‘pair’ the BLT573 with the phone before you use it for the first time.

‘Pairing’ creates a unique wireless link between the phone with Bluetooth® wireless technology and your BLT573 eliminating the need to repeat the pairing process during future use.

What is passkey?

Passkey or PIN is a code that you enter on your mobile phone to pair it with the Bluetooth® receiver unit. This makes your phone and the Bluetooth® receiver unit recognize each other and automatically work together.

The Bluetooth® wireless function in your phone has to be turned on to establish automatic connection.
