ventilatedareaswherefuelfumesmayreachan openflame,spark,
orpilot lightas ona furnace,waterheater,clothesdryer,or gas
appliance.
PREPARING THE ENGINE
IMPORTANT:Fuel leftin thefuel tank duringwarmweatherdeterio-
ratesandwill causeseriousstartingproblems.
Topreventgumdepositsfromforminginsidetheengine'scarburetor
andcausingpossiblemalfunctionoftheengine, thefuelsystem must
beeither completelyemptied,orthegasolinemustbe treatedwitha
stabilizertopreventdeterioration.
1. Ifusingafuel stabilizer:
a. Readtheproductmanufacturer'sinstructionsand recom-
mendations.
b. Addto clean,freshgasolinethecorrectamountof stabilizer
forthe capacityof the fuel system.
c. Fill the fueltank withtreatedfuel and run the enginefor 2-3
minutestoget stabilizedfuelintothe carburetor.
2. Ifemptyingthefuel system:
a. Donot drainfuel when the engineis hot.Allow the engine
adequatetimetocool. Drainfuelinto anapprovedcontainer
outdoors,awayfromopenflame.
b. Drainany largevolumeoffuel from thetank bydisconnect-
ingthe fuellinefrom thein-linefuel filterneartheengine.

Gasolineisextremelyflammableandcanbeexplosiveundercertain
conditions.Draingasolinebeforestoringtheequipmentforextended
periods.Drainfuelonly intoanapprovedcontaineroutdoors,away
froman openflame.Allowengineto cool. Extinguishcigarettes,
cigars,pipes,and othersourcesofignitionprior todrainingfuel.
Storegasolineinan approvedcontainerinsafelocation.
c. Reconnectthefuel lineandrunthe engineuntil it starts to
falter,thenuse thechoketo keeptheengine runninguntilall
fuelin thecarburetorhas beenexhausted.
d. Disconnectthefuellineanddrainany remaininggasoline
fromthe system.
DRAiNiNG THE FUEL
1. Locatethefuel filter,whichis locatedon the left sideof the
engine,andmaybe attachedto theenginewith a tie strap.
2. Cutthe tie strap,if present,then pinchthe in-lineclamp on the
fuelfilter witha pair ofpliers,slide theclamp upthe fuel line.
3. Pullthefuel linefreefrom thefilterand placetheopenendof the
lineintoanapprovedcontainertodrainthe fuel.
PREPARING THE LAWN TRACTOR
1. Cleanandlubricatetractorthoroughlyasdescribedin thelubrica-
tioninstructions.
2. Donot usea pressurewasherorgardenhoseto cleanyour unit.
3. Storemowerin a dry,clean area. Do notstore nextto corrosive
materials,suchas fertilizer.
Gasolineisa toxicsubstance.Disposeofgasolineproperly.Contact
yourlocalauthoritiesforapproveddisposalmethods.
3. Removethesparkplugandpour one(1)ounce ofengineoil
throughthesparkplug holeintothe cylinder.Cranktheengine
severaltimestodistributethe oil. Replacethespark plug.
