SAFE OPERATION PRACTICESTraining1. Read, un derstand, and follow all instructi ons on the machine and in the
manual(s) before attempti ng to assemble and operate. Keep this manual
in a safe place for future and regular reference and for o rdering replace-
ment parts.
2. Be fam iliar with all controls and their proper o peration. Know how to stop
the machine and disengage them quic kly.
3. Never allow c hildren under 16 years old to operate this machine. Ch ildren
16 years old and over should read and understand the ope ration instruc-
tions and safety rules in this manual and s hould be trained and supervised
by a parent.
4. Never allow ad ults to operate this machine without pro per instruction.
5. Keep bysta nders, helpers, pets, and children at lea st 75 feet from the
machine while it is in operation. Stop mac hine if anyone enters the area.
6. Never run an e ngine indoors or in a poorly ventilated area . Engine exhaust
contains carbon monoxide, an odorl ess and deadly gas.
7. Do not pu t hands and feet near rotating parts or in the fe eding chambers
and discharge opening. Contact wi th the rotating impeller can amputate
fingers, hands, and feet.
8. Never atte mpt to unclog either the feed intake or disc harge opening,
remove or empty vacuum bag, or inspect and repai r the machine while the
engine is running. Shut the engine of f and wait until all moving parts have
come to a complete stop. Disconnect th e spark plug wire and ground it
against the engine.
Preparation1. Thor oughly inspect the area where the equip ment is to be used. Remove
all rocks, bottles, cans, or other forei gn objects which could be picked up
or thrown and cause personal injury or da mage to the machine.
2. Always wear safet y glasses or safety goggles during o peration or while
performing an adjustment or repair, to protect eyes. Th rown objects which
ricochet can cause serious injur y to the eyes.
3. Wear sturd y, rough-soled work shoes and close-fit ting slacks and shirts.
Loose fitting clothes or jewelry c an be caught in movable parts. Never
operate this machine in bare feet or sandals. Wear le ather work gloves
when feeding material in the chipper chu te.
4. Before s tarting, check all bolts and scr ews for proper tightness to be sure
the machine is in safe working conditio n. Also, visually inspect machine for
any damage at frequent intervals.
5. Main tain or replace safety and instructi ons labels, as necessary.
6. To avoid personal injur y or property damage use extre me care in handling
gasoline. Gasoline is extremely flamm able and the vapors are explosive.
Serious personal injury can occ ur when gasoline is spilled on yourself
or your clothes which can ignite. Wash your skin an d change clothes
immediately.
a. Use on ly an approved gasoline container.
b. Ex tinguish all cigarettes, cigar s, pipes, and other sources of ignition.
c. Never fuel machine indoors.
d. Never rem ove gas cap or add fuel while the engine is hot or run ning.
e. All ow engine to cool at least two minutes before refu eling.
f. Never over fill fu el tank. Fill tank to no more than 1/2 in ch below bottom
of filler neck to provide space for fuel expansi on.
g. Rep lace gasoline cap and tighten securel y.
h. If ga soline is spilled, wipe it off the eng ine and equipment. Move
machine to another area. Wait 5 minutes before star ting the engine.
i. Never store the machine or fuel container insid e where there is an open
flame, spark, or pilot light (e.g. furnace, water heater, space he ater,
clothes dryer, etc.).
j. To reduce a fire hazard, keep machine free of grass, leaves, or other
debris build-up. Clean up oil or fuel sp illage and remove any fuel
soaked debris.
k. Allow machine to cool at least 5 minutes befo re storing.
