Installing the Cable Modem Using the Ethernet Port

CAUTION! Be sure to read this entire User’s Manual from front to back in sequence before installing the D-Link DCM-202 USB/Ethernet Broadband Cable Modem.

This chapter describes how to install the cable modem using the Ethernet port. Using the Ethernet port enables you to use a single connection to the Internet or use a hub to connect multiple computers to the cable modem. You can also use multiple IP addresses from your cable operator when using the Ethernet connection. See “Installing the Cable Modem Using the USB Port” in this manual to set up the USB Connection.

You can use the Ethernet port to connect to the Internet with the following operating systems: Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98SE, Windows 2000, Windows Me, Windows NT, or Macintosh 7.6 (or later).

Verify the TCP/IP Protocol Configuration

Before installing the modem using the Ethernet setup, you must verify that your computer has the TCP/IP protocol installed. Follow the procedure for your operating system to verify or install the TCP/IP protocol.
