Z (non fourni) doit être fabriqué selon la hauteur de la plateforme. Le protecteur contre les braises doit dépasser sous le foyer d'une distance minimum de 4 cm (1 1/2 po). Le protecteur contre les braises doit être fabriqué en tôle galvanisée (calibre 28 minimum) afin de prévenir la corrosion.

6.À l'aide de vis ou de clous, fixez le foyer

à la structure en passant par les collets situés sur les côtés du foyer.

Prolongement d'âtre

Un prolongement d'âtre s'étendant d'un mini- mum de 40,6 cm (16 po) à l'avant du foyer et d'un minimum de 20,3 cm (8 po) de chaque côté de l'ouverture du foyer est nécessaire pour protéger le plancher combustible de- vant le foyer. Fabriquez le prolongement d'âtre avec un matériau qui correspond aux caractéristiques suivantes : une couche de matériau inorganique non combustible ayant un coefficient de conductivité thermique de K=0,84 BTU IN/FT, HR. F (ou moins) pour une épaisseur de 2,5 cm (1 po). Ainsi, si le matériau choisi a un coefficient K de 0,25, comme la fibre de verre, la formule suivante donne :

Le coefficient de conductivité thermique K des matériaux peut être obtenu du fabricant ou du fournisseur de ces matériaux. Si le prolonge- ment d'âtre doit être recouvert, utilisez un ma- tériau non combustible comme des carreaux de céramique, de l'ardoise, de la brique, du béton, du métal, du verre, du marbre, de la pierre, etc. Prévoyez un moyen d'empêcher le prolongement d'âtre de se déplacer et cal- feutrez les ouvertures entre l'encadrement du foyer et le prolongement à l'aide d'un matériau non combustible (voir figure 3).
