To obtain high-quality color images, keep the following points in mind:

Use the manufacturer’s inks and recommended paper for your ink jet printer.

Papers designed for ink jet printers have special coatings to evenly distribute the ink, and are differ- ent than uncoated bond papers used in laser printers and copiers.

Birmy Graphics has balanced the stochastic half- tone screening and color technology to work with Epson’s inks and recommended papers.

Stochastic screening is a random dot pattern as opposed to a fixed screen ruling. Stochastic screen produces more tones and has better detail than fixed screen rulings.

Maximum density for color

Your PowerRIP has been designed to allow users to print up to 300% maximum color from CMYK files. Exceeding this number will cause problems with excess ink. Many desktop drawing applications set black to 400% by default. A black of 400% wastes ink and is too dense to print well on desktop ink jet printers as well as large commercial offset presses. Most magazine’s printing standards, depending on the publication and stock, only allow maximum black within a range of 260% to 285%.
