again to restart a new game.

Treasures will appear randomly on each screen. The game story is made up of different random screens. When you move from the first screen to the second screen and then decide to go back to the first screen, you will be on the same screen that you were on before. However, if you go from screen one to screen two to screen three and then backtrack to screen two and then screen one, you may be on a different screen than you were on before—due to the random- ness of the game.

Object of the Game (The

pleasure of treasure)

The object of the game is to guide Harry through the jungle, avoiding obstacles and dan- ger as you grab as much treasure as possible along the way. Pitfall! has a total of 32 treas- ures, divided into three types: money bags, gold bars and diamond rings. You win the game if you can pick up all 32 treasures before your time is up. (Pits are defined as two pools of water which are locat- ed on the left hand side of the display and also when the water contains crocodiles.) You’ll also lose points when you’re hit by a rolling log or by accidentally falling into a mine.

Pitfall Harry’s

Adventure Tips

Should you fall into a mine, don’t panic! You can escape by locating the next closest ladder available and then climbing it. Tar pits open and close. Timing is everything! Watch them care- fully and getting past them will be a breeze!

Where there’s water, there’s usually hungry crocodiles. Be very careful when approaching these. One wrong step and you’re no longer Pitfall Harry, you’re now “Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner.” Sometimes, swinging on a vine is your only escape. Use these vines to get across some of the wet spots.
