9.Measure from the tip of the front blade to the flat surface and the tip of the rear blade to the flat surface (Figure 42 and Figure 43). If the front blade tip is not “R” (see Block Height and Rake Table in Leveling the Mower Deck) lower than the rear blade tip, adjust the front deck hanger.

Replacing the Discharge Deflector

DANGER

An uncovered discharge opening could allow the lawn mower to throw objects in the operator’s or bystander’s direction and result in serious injury. Also, contact with the blade could occur.

Never operate the lawn mower unless you install a mulch plate, discharge deflector, or grass collection system.

10.When the front-to-rear blade slope is correct check the side-to-side level of the mower again; refer to Leveling the Mower.

2.Slide the rod out of the short stand-off, spring, and discharge deflector. Remove the damaged or worn discharge deflector.

3.Install new discharge deflector.

4.Orient the spring so that the short leg points towards the discharge deflector and the longer leg points towards the deck as shown in Figure 44. Place spring on rod and slide rod, straight end,
