Second Guess

Occasionally you may realize you’ve filled in a word in a puzzle incorrectly. The word may not match the clue, or the word may make it impossible to fill in appropriate words going the other way. At least one letter of what you put into the puzzle must be wrong, but you don’t know which letter. What to do?

Suppose you’ve put the word “cadger” into the puzzle space. Cadger is a perfectly good word, but it doesn’t seem to match the clue, “stern friend of Toad in ‘Wind in the Willows’.”
