6.2 CONNECTING TO A COMPUTER

The “Connecting to a Computer” section explains how to connect the camera to your computer
using the USB cable (included) and describes the functions you can use once the camera and
computer are connected.
If the power cuts out during data transmission, the data will not be transmitted correctly. Always use the
AC power adapter when connecting the camera to a computer.
Refer to Section 5 the first time you connect the camera to your computer.
Install the software first. Do not connect the camera with the computer before
installing all the software.
This mode provides a simple way to read images from an xD-Picture Card and store images onto
an xD-Picture Card (P.103).

This function allows you to conduct videoconferencing sessions between PCs connected to the
Internet.

The WEB Camera function can be used on only Windows XP SP1.

Microsoft Windows Messenger 5.0 or later is required to use the WEB Camera function.

eTurn your PC on.
rUse the USB cable to connect the cradle.
tSlide the Power switch to the side to turn the camera on.
ySet the “USB MODE” setting in the “SET-UP” menu to “qWEB” (P.86).
uSlide the Power switch to the side to turn the camera off.
iSet the camera into the cradle.
oSet the “USB/PLAY” switch on the cradle to the “USB” position.
!0 Press the “POWER” button on the cradle to turn the power on.
The “qWEB CAMERA” appears briefly on the LCD monitor.
!1 Using Video Chat with Windows Messenger, refer to the “Basic
operation” in the “How to use FinePixViewer” in the HELP menu
which was installed from the CD-ROM.
Disconnecting the Camera
qQuit all applications (FinePixViewer etc.) that are using the camera.
wPress the “POWER” button on the cradle to turn the power off.

Use a tripod when using the WEB Camera function.

The LCD monitor darkens when the WEB Camera is used.

If the camera cannot connect to the PC, the “ ” is displayed briefly.
hThe lens is fixed at the wide-angle zoom setting.
hThe viewfinder lamp is lit green.
hPower save and Auto power off are disabled during USB connection.
