RNG & BRG MODE

The GPS receiver calculates the range, bear- ing, cross track error (XTE) and ETA to TO waypoint when you set a destination. The range and bearing can be calculated by GREAT CIRCLE (straight line between two points) or RHUMB LINE (straight line be- tween two points on nautical chart, default setting) method.

RANGE/SPEED UNIT

Selects the unit for range and speed; nm/kt (default setting), km/ km/h, sm/ sm/h.

DEPTH UNIT

Selects unit of depth measurement among, feet, fathoms, and meters. The default set- ting is feet.

TEMP UNIT

Selects unit of water temperature measure- ment between Celsius or Fahrenheit. The de- fault setting is Fahrenheit.

LAT/LON DISPLAY

Displays the seconds of latitude and longi- tude positions in hundredths, thousandths (default setting) or ten thousandths.

TIME DISPLAY

Selects time display format for 12 hour or 24 hour (default setting).

WAYPOINT SW

Provides automatic or manual waypoint switching when following a route. For further details, see page 8-4. The default setting is AUTO2.

COURSE VECTOR

You may extend a line from the own ship po- sition to show ship’s course. The line can be a vector (the length depends on the ship’s speed) or a line (course bar). The default set- ting is LINE.

BEARING

A navigation device outputs both true and magnetic bearings. Amagnetic bearing is true bearing plus (or minus) earth’s magnetic de- viation. Thus the equation for finding mag- netic bearing is;

true bearing ± x (magnetic variation)° = mag- netic bearing

You can display your ship’s course and bear- ing to waypoint in true or magnetic bearing, and the default setting is magnetic.

MAG VARIATION

The magnetic variations for all areas of the earth are preprogrammed into this unit. The preprogrammed variation is accurate for most instances, however you may wish to manu- ally enter a variation.

1.Select MAG VARIATION, and press the soft key EDIT to show the mag variation window.

2.Select MANUAL.

3.Key in magnetic deviation value.

4.Press the soft key W<-->E to switch be- tween East and West and vice versa, if necessary.

5.Press the soft key ENTER or the [ENTER] key to finish.

TD DISPLAY

Position may be shown in Loran C TDs (de- fault setting), Decca TDs, or latitude and lon- gitude. To display position in TDs select Loran C or Decca here and choose TD at “POSI- TION DISPLAY” below. You can select the Loran C or Decca chain to use on the TD SETUP menu. For details see “TD SETUP menu” on page 11-7.

The GP-1850DF is equipped with a powerful 12-channel GPS that provides fast and accurate positioning information, while the GP-1850F features a sturdy built-in fish finder, making it ideal for anglers. Both units boast a brilliant color display that enhances visibility in various lighting conditions, ensuring that users can easily read information on the screen, even in direct sunlight.

One of the standout features of these models is their compatibility with a variety of chart formats, including C-MAP, and Furuno’s proprietary raster charts. This flexibility allows users to choose from a broad range of navigational charts, catering to specific regional needs and preferences. The intuitive interface of the GP-1850 series simplifies navigation, offering menu-driven commands and support for multiple languages.

Furuno has integrated advanced sonar technology in the GP-1850F model, including a high-resolution fish finder capable of detecting fish signatures with remarkable precision. The dual-frequency capabilities enable users to switch between higher frequencies for shallow water fishing and lower frequencies for deeper waters. This enriches the fishing experience while improving catch rates.

Moreover, both devices feature a built-in waypoint register, allowing users to store up to 1,000 waypoints, which can be essential for returning to promising fishing spots or navigating back to port. The navigation functions also include routes and track recording, empowering boaters to create custom paths and review their previous journeys.

The GP-1850 series also places a high emphasis on safety, incorporating features like man overboard (MOB) alarms and route alarms to enhance on-water safety. Additionally, they are designed to withstand the harsh marine environment, with waterproof housings that ensure durability during adverse weather conditions.
