Crushing Ice

Crushing Ice

To get ice that is almost the consistency of snow, follow these guidelines.

Ice must come directly from the freezer. Ice that has been stored in an ice chest or ice bucket has already started to melt. That small amount of moisture will not make good dry, crushed ice.

Crush 3 to 4 cups of ice at a time.

Use the PULSE/OFF button. Press and release the button allowing the blender to come to a complete stop before pressing again. This allows the chunks of ice to fall on the blades for consistent crushing of the ice.

NOTE: Continue to pulse until you cannot hear chunks of ice hitting the blender jar, or about 30 to 45 seconds.

If you are crushing ice with a liquid, for a drink or other recipe, there should not be more ice than liquid for best results. Equal amounts of ice and liquid work well, for example 2 cups ice and 2 cups liquid. Do not try and blend 2 cups ice and 1 cup liq- uid. An air pocket is created around the blades and prevents all the ice from being crushed.

Blending Techniques

Bread Crumbs

Tear bread into pieces and put in blender jar. PULSE about 15 times.

Cookie or Cracker Crumbs

Break cookies or crackers into pieces and put in blender jar. Process 1 cup at a time. PULSE about 10 times. For a finer consistency, process on Speed 4 a few seconds after Pulsing.

Chopped Nuts

Place 1 cup nuts in blender jar. PULSE a few times. Remove jar from base and shake to redistribute pieces. Place jar on base and PULSE a few more times.

Chopping Vegetables

Cabbage, carrots, onion, green pepper, potatoes. Place 2 cups of chunks in blender jar. Cover with water. PULSE until desired chopped consistency is reached. Pour into colander to drain off water.

Frozen Juice Concentrate

Place 6 ounces frozen juice in blender jar with recommended amount of water.

Process on Speed 12 for 20 seconds. Or place 12 ounces frozen juice in blender jar with 1 can of water. Process on Speed 12 for 30 seconds. Pour into pitcher and stir in remaining 2 cans water.

Smooth Gravy

If your gravy has lumps, place in blender jar. Remove filler cap from cover to allow steam to escape. Process on Speed 3 for 5 seconds or until smooth.

Pancakes or Waffles

Place liquid ingredients into blender jar; then dry ingredients. Process on Speed 6 for 10 seconds or until blended.

Parmesan Cheese

Cut cheese into half-inch chunks and place in blender jar. Process on Speed 10 for 45 seconds or until desired consistency.

Superfine Sugar

Place 1 cup regular granulated sugar in blender jar. Process on Speed 8 for 30 seconds to make superfine sugar which dissolves instantly in iced tea.
