log.
SRoll the log over and finish with a sec ond
overcut.
SWatch for logs with a compres sion side to
prevent the saw from pinching. See illustra-
tionfor c utting logs with a compression side.

LIMBING AND PRUNING

WARNING: Be alert for a nd guard
against kickback. Do not allow the moving
chain to contact any other branches or obje cts
at the nose of the guide bar when limbing or
pruning. Allow ing such contact can result in
serious injury.
WARNING: Nev er climb into a tree
to limb or prune. Do not stand on ladders,
platforms,a log, or in any position w hich can
cause you to lose your balance or control of
thesaw.
IMPORTANTPOINTS
SWork slowly, keeping both hands firmly
grippedon the saw. Maintain secure foot-
ingand balanc e.
SWatch out for springpoles. Springpoles
are small size limbs which can catch the
sawc hain and whip toward you or pull you
off balance. U se extreme caution when
cutting small size limbs.
SBe alert for springback. Watch out for
branches that are bent or under pressure.
Avoid being struck by the branch or the
sawwhen the tens ion in the wood fibers is
released.
SKeep a clear work area. Frequently clear
branches out of the way to avoid tripping
over them.

LIMBING

SAlwayslimb a tree after it is cut down. Only
thencan limbing be done s afely and prop-
erly.
SLeave the larger limbs underneath the
felledtree to support t he tree as you work.
SStartat the base of the felled tr ee and work
toward the top, cutting branches and
limbs. Remove small limbs with one cut.
SKeepthe tr ee between you and the chain.
Cut from the side of the tree opposite the
branch you are cutting.
SRemove larger, supporting branches with
thecutting techniques desc ribed in BUCK-
ING WITHOUTA SUPPO RT.
SAlways use an overcut to cut small and
freely hanging limbs. Undercutting could
cause limbs to fall and pinch the saw.

PRUNING

WARNING: Limit pruning to limbs
shoulder height or below. Do not c ut if
branchesare higher than y our shoulder. Get
apr ofessional to do the job.
