This is the same type of,stitch used by the garment industry in making sports- -wear. It is used for seams of 3/8" to 1/4". The seam is formed and finished in one operation. It must be osed when you are making swimwear, ski pants and other garments that require stretch.

Fig. 1 shows the raw edge finished.

Stitch so the needle pierces the fabric just short of the outside edge.

Raw or worn edges of older garments can be overcast to prevent further raveling.

This is a good stitch to use in making or repairing lingerie. The stitch is decora- tive as well as useful. Simply stitch the elastic into place around the waist of the garment, making sure that the elastic is evenly spaced. To do this mark the correct length piece into quarters and match these markings with center front and back of the garment as well as side seams.
