Internal Setup and Connections

1. Connecting the Power (Figure 1)

• ConnectthesuppliedACadapter tothepowercord.Insertthe DCplugendintotheDC12V
jackontherearpaneloftheunit.Next,plugthepowercordintoanACoutlet.
Pass theACadapter cordthrought hecordhook sothatthe plugwontberemoved from
thejackaccidentally.Whenyouunhookthecord,don’tpullthecordwithforce.
B esuretousetheACadapterthatcamewithyourunit.UsingotherACadaptersmaycause
theunittomalfunction.
BesuretoplugtheunitintoanACoutletoftheappropriatevoltage.

2. Turning the SP-170S ON

Pressthepowerswitchthatslocatedonthelesideofthetoppaneltot urntheuniton.(Figure2)

• Pressthepowerswitchagaintoturnt heunito.

3. Adjust the volume

• Rotatethe VOLUMEknobthatslocated nextto thepowersw itchrighttowar d“MAX”to
raisethevolumelevel.Rotateitletoward“MIN”tolowerthelevel.(Figure2)
TheVOLUMEknob controlst heoutputlevel ofthe built-inspeakers andthe headphones
jacks.

Using headphones

Whenyoupluginheadphones,the built-inspeakerswillb emuted.Thisisusefu lwhenyou
wanttoplaythekeyboa rdintheevening withoutbotheringyourfa milyoryourneighbors.
TheSP-170Sfeaturestwoheadphonejackssothattwopeoplecanenjoyplayingandliste ning.
• InsertthestereoheadphoneplugintooneofthePHONESjacksontherearpanel.(Figure3)
Ifyourheadphonesfeatureastandard-to-mi niadapterplug,besuretoholdtheadapterplug
whenyouconnectordisconnecttheheadphones.
Toprotect yourhearing ,donotl istentoloud, high-volumesounds foralongp eriodof
timethroughheadphones.

Using a Damper Pedal

Youcanusethesuppliedpeda lasadamperpedalbycon nectingittotheDAMPERSWjack
ontherearpaneloftheunit.(Figure3)
Whileyoupressthepedal,thesoundw illsustain,creatingarich,li ngeringsound.
Alternatively,youcanusean optionalDS-1Hdamperpedal.A half-pedaldampereectca n
beappliedtoPiano1or2.

Connecting audio components

YoucanusethePHONESjacks asline-outjacksto connectpoweredspeakersor audiocom-
ponentsto thekeyboard. Forsuchconn ections,use commercially-availablec ablesthatar e
appropriateforthecomponentsthatyou’reusing.
Beforec onnectingaudio components,makesure thatyoutur nothepowert otheunit
andtheaudiocomponents.Otherw ise,damagetotheunitorother componentsmayoc-
cur.

Using the music stand

• Insertthelegsof thesuppliedmusicstandintothe dedicatedgroovethat’slocatedinthe
middleofthetoppanel.(Figure4)
