Using the Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter III

This section provides information on installing a supported hard disk drive into your Ultrabay media bay using the Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter III.

Note: The adapter supports only the 2.5-inch Serial ATA hard disk drive. It does not support ThinkCentre® hard disk drives, Lenovo China hard disk drives, or hard disk drives from other companies.

Handling a hard disk drive

To protect a hard disk drive during installation, observe the following precautions:

vKeep the drive in its static-protective bag until you are ready to install the drive in your ThinkPad computer. If you take the drive out of the static-protective bag, place the static-protective bag on a flat, padded surface, and then place the drive on the bag with the component side facing up.

vHandle the drive with care. Dropping or jarring the drive can damage the components inside the drive housing.

vLimit your movement. Movement can cause static electricity buildup.

vDo not subject the drive to physical shocks.

vHandle the drive by the edges.

vDo not touch any exposed components on the drive.

vDo not apply pressure to the cover of the drive.

Attention: The hard disk drive is very sensitive. Incorrect handling can cause damage and permanent loss of data on the drive.
