Whileitisimportanttoprotectles,data,andsettingsthatareontheharddiskdriveorsolid-statedrive,
youalsomightneedtoinstallanewoperatingsystem,installnewdevicedrivers,updateyoursystemUEFI
BIOS,orrecoverpreinstalledsoftware.Thisinformationwillhelpyouhandleyourcomputerwithproper
careandkeepitintopworkingshape.

Installinganewoperatingsystem

Ifyouinstallanewoperatingsystemonyourcomputer ,youneedtoinstallthesupplementlesand
ThinkPaddevicedriversforitatthesametime.
•IfyouinstallanewWindows7operatingsystem,thenecessarylesarelocatedinthefollowingdirectories
onyoursolid-statedriveorharddiskdrive:
–ThesupplementlesfortheoperatingsystemsupportedareintheC:\SWTOOL S\OSFIXESdirectory.
–ThedevicedriversfortheoperatingsystemsupportedareintheC:\SWTOOL S\DRIVERSdirectory.
–ThepreloadedsoftwareprogramsareintheC:\SWTOOLS\APPSdirectory.
Note:Ifyoucannotndthesupplementles,thedevicedrivers,andprogramsoftwareyouneedonyour
harddiskdrive,orifyouwanttoreceiveupdatesandthelatestinformationaboutthem,goto:

•IfyouinstallanewWindows8operatingsystem,got ohttp://www.lenovo.com/Driverstodownloadand
installthelatestdevicedrivers.
Note:Theprocessofinstallinganewoperatingsystemdeletesallthedataonyourharddiskdrive,including
backupsorimagesthatwerestoredinahiddenfolderbyuseofarecoveryprogram.

Beforeyoubegin

Note:IfyourcomputerisequippedwithbothaharddiskdriveandanM.2solid-statedrive,youarenot
recommendedtousetheM.2solid-statedriveasabootabledevice.TheM.2solid-statedriveisdesigned
anddevelopedforthe“cache”functionpurposeonly.IfyouusetheM.2solid-statedriveasabootable
device,itsreliabilityisnotguaranteed.
Beforeyouinstalltheoperatingsystem,dothefollowing:
•IfyouaregoingtoinstallanewWindows7operatingsystem,copyallthesubdirectoriesandlesinthe
C:\SWTOOLSdirectorytoar emovablestoragedevice,toavoidlosinglesduringtheinstallation.
•Printtheinstructionsyouwilluse.Gotothesectionfortheoperatingsystemyouareusing:
–InstallingtheWindows7operatingsystem
–InstallingtheWindows8operatingsystem

–TheUEFIBIOSfeaturesaresupportedontheWindows7operatingsystem(64-bit)andtheWindows
8operatingsystem(64-bit).
