Messaging Basics

Knowing When You Have Messages

There are several ways your PCS Phone alerts you to new
messages:
By displaying a message on the screen
By sounding the assigned ringer type
By the LED blinking red
By displaying at the top of your screen for voicemail
messages, for text messages, or for both voice and
text messages

Message Types

There are two types of messaging features available from
your PCS Phone’s menu. You can receive voicemail and
PCS Messages (also known as page/text or SMS messages) as
long as your phone has enough memory to store them.
Voicemail automatically captures calls when you can’t
answer your phone or it is turned off. The voicemail system
sends a notification to your phone when you have new
voice messages and an asterisk (*) is displayed in front of the
Voicemail menu option. (See “Using Voicemail” on page 79.)
PCS Messages (appear on your phone’s menu as Page/Text
under the Messages option) include numeric pages, Email,
and Updates. (See “PCS Messages” on page 86.)
