Cloning Procedures
Cloning Overview
Cloning refers to the process of capturing a Master STB Setup and transferring it to a Target STB that is to remain in Pass-through Mode. There are two different procedures for cloning a Master STB Setup, each with its own advantages and limitations (see also “Cloning Methods” on page 35):
•Using a USB memory device / TLX file
•Using a USB memory device / TLL file
Each cloning method is described in further detail on the pages that follow.
Learning / Teaching a Master STB Setup using a TLX File
This section describes how to Learn and/or Teach a Master STB Setup using a TLX file.
Before You Begin
•Learning and Teaching is only possible between identical model STBs.
•Complete the Custom Master STB Setup procedure (see pages 35 to 38).
•Ensure the USB device has been formatted with FAT format.
•If you would like the Target STB(s) to remain in Pass-through Mode after Teaching, ensure the Master STB Setup does not have an auto-tuned/edited channel lineup; otherwise, Teaching will result in the Target STB(s) being configured for FTG Mode.
•If a TV Zone # and/or a Wi-Fi Zone # has/have been set in the Master STB (for location-specific configuration) before the Learning process is initiated, the Zone designation(s) will be used during the subsequent Teaching process(es). This means that in order for the “Learned” clone data with TV Zone and/or Wi-Fi Zone assignments to be applied, any Target STBs will need to be assigned the same Zone designation(s) BEFORE Teaching is performed. See Reference section, “Using the STB’s Zoning Features,” for further information. See also bullet below.
•If you intend to use the Zoning feature(s) on this STB, make sure to assign the appropriate TV Zone # and/or Wi-Fi Zoning # as described in Reference section, “Using the STB’s Zoning Features,” BEFORE continuing with the Learning procedure below. See also bullet above. For the Wi-Fi Zoning feature, the Master STB’s wireless network connection settings also should be configured in the IP Environment Menu before Learning is initiated.
•It is not possible to clone a Master STB’s clock. Either set a Target STB’s clock manually, or use the Auto Clock setting in the STB setup menus.
Caution: Do not unplug the STB power cord or remove/disconnect the USB memory device while Learning or Teaching, as doing so may cause the STB to malfunction or harm the USB device, respectively.
