Configuring the Gateway

In this chapter, you will configure the Linksys ADSL Gateway to be able to gain access to the Internet through your Internet Service Provider (ISP). You will need the setup information provided by your ADSL ISP:

Your ADSL line VPI and VCI

Your ADSL encapsulation type and multiplexing

For PPPoA or PPPoE users, you also need these values from your ISP:

Your username and password

For RFC 1483 users, you may need these values from your ISP:

Your ADSL fixed Internet IP address

Your Subnet Mask

Your Default Gateway

Your primary DNS IP address

The above information should have been provided by your ADSL ISP. If not, contact your ISP and they will be able to supply you with the correct settings. The instructions from your ISP tell you how to set up your PC for Internet access. Because you are now using the Gateway to share Internet access among several computers, you will use the setup information to configure the Gateway instead of your PC. You only need to configure the Gateway once using the first computer you set up.
