Tachymetric scale

To read the time, the position of the central seconds hand is used. For observations over longer periods, the indica- tions of the totalisers (hours and minutes) are also used.

Using the tachymetric scale

Example: calculating the speed of a car.

Record the time the car takes to cover a distance of 1 kilometre. Read off the speed on the tachymetric scale indicated by the central seconds hand. In this case, the car is travelling at 120 km/hr.
