Gevallen van hypertensie nemen toe met de leeftijd. Bovendien neemt de elasticiteit van de bloedvaten af bij een gebrek aan lichaamsbeweging, overtollig lichaamsvet en hoge cholesterol (LDL), die zich vasthecht aan de binnenkant van de bloedvaten. Symptomen van hoge bloeddruk

Bloeddruk meten

Als u via de oscillometrische methode uw bloeddruk wilt bepalen, worden de drukschommelingen die worden veroorzaakt door de polsgolven gemeten. Aangezien uw bloeddruk op een dag voortdurend verandert (zie grafiek op de volgende pagina), dient u steeds op hetzelfde tijdstip van de dag uw bloed- druk te meten. Anders kunnen de metingen niet worden vergeleken. U bent mogelijk meer gespan- nen en nerveus bij de dokter, waardoor uw bloed- druk hoger is dan wanneer u thuis in uw vertrouwde omgeving uw bloeddruk meet. Dit fenomeen wordt “witte jassen hypertensie” genoemd.
