The indicated zoom magnification is an approximation.

The zoom magnification values will change when using the extended optical zoom.

￿Tele-macro function

If you zoom to a magnification of 12￿ to

18￿ (close to Tele), you can take a picture of an object that is only 1 m (3.28 feet) from

the lens. (The tele-macro icon [ ] appears.) It is convenient when taking close-up pictures of flowers blooming near the ground while standing up or when

taking close-up pictures of insects from a distant position.

We recommend using a tripod and the self-timer in macro mode.

When a subject is close to the camera, the effective focus range (depth of field) is significantly narrowed. Therefore, if the distance between the camera and the subject is changed after focusing on the subject, it may become difficult to focus on it again.

In tele macro mode, the depth of field is narrowed and camera jitter occurs easier than usual. Therefore, when you cannot use a tripod, we recommend taking pictures with a brightness equivalent to having the aperture value set to F4.0 or a higher number and the shutter speed is set to 1/125th of a second or faster to keep the depth of field and the performance of the stabilizer function.

If the distance between the camera and the subject is beyond the focus range of the camera, the picture may not be properly focused even if the focus indication lights.

AF Macro gives priority to a subject close to the camera. Therefore, if the distance between the camera and the subject is more than 1 m (3.28 feet) it takes longer to focus than in program AE mode [ ].

The available flash range is about 30 cm (0.98 feet) to 6.0 m (19.7 feet) (Wide). (When the ISO sensitivity is set to [AUTO].) We recommend setting the flash

to Forced OFF [ ] when you take pictures at close range.

If you focus on the subject at 2 m

(6.56 feet) or less distant position with tele-macro function when setting the optical zoom magnification in 18￿ and then rotate the zoom lever for setting the optical zoom magnification to 11￿ or less, the subject becomes unfocused.

When you take pictures at close range, the resolution of the periphery of the picture may decrease slightly. This is not a malfunction.

DMC-FZ18 specifications

The Panasonic DMC-FZ18 is a versatile bridge camera that has gained recognition for its impressive blend of advanced features and user-friendly design. Introduced in 2007, this model falls under the Lumix series and is celebrated for its compact size while offering the capabilities typically found in larger DSLR cameras.

At the heart of the DMC-FZ18 is a 8.1-megapixel CCD sensor, which delivers sharp images with a remarkable level of detail. This sensor is complemented by an impressive 18x optical zoom lens, with a focal length range equivalent to 28-504mm in 35mm terms. This extensive zoom range allows photographers to capture everything from wide landscapes to distant subjects without needing additional lenses.

The camera is equipped with Panasonic's Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.) technology, which helps reduce the effects of camera shake, particularly important when shooting at longer focal lengths or in low-light situations. This feature enhances the overall usability of the camera by allowing handheld shooting with reduced motion blur.

The DMC-FZ18 also boasts a high-performance Venus Engine III, which enables fast continuous shooting at up to 3 frames per second and quick autofocus. This engine plays a significant role in processing images efficiently, ensuring that the camera responds swiftly to a variety of shooting conditions.

One of the standout features of the FZ18 is its advanced image processing capabilities, which provide excellent low-light performance and vibrant color reproduction. The camera supports shooting in various modes, including manual, aperture priority, and shutter priority, catering to both beginners and experienced photographers alike.

For those interested in video recording, the FZ18 offers the ability to capture high-quality motion in 720p resolution, making it a solid choice for casual videographers. Additionally, the camera features a 2.5-inch LCD screen, which provides a clear view for composing shots and navigating through the camera's menu.

In terms of connectivity, the DMC-FZ18 includes options for easily transferring images to computers or printers, although it lacks some of the modern wireless capabilities found in newer models. Despite being an older model, the Panasonic DMC-FZ18 remains a reliable option for photography enthusiasts looking for a capable and compact camera that delivers quality performance across a wide range of shooting scenarios.
