Enjoying surround sound

The following chart gives a summary of this units surround features.
Note
All the features are only effective if speakers are used. No discernible effect will be heard through headphones.
None of the features are effective when radio is selected as the source.
You may experience a reduction in sound quality when these surround systems are used with some sources. If this occurs, turn the surround
system off.

DOLBY DIGITAL

Dolby Digital is a discrete 5.1 (6) channel
surround system developed for cinema
use.
The sound signals in Dolby Digital format
are compressed to 1/10 their original
size, allowing an entire movie to be re-
corded on a single DVD.
This unit automatically recognizes DVDs
that have been recorded with Dolby
Digital.
Not all Dolby Digital sources are record-
ed with 5.1 (6) channels.
Some sources marked Dolby Digital may
be recorded in Dolby Surround, a 2
channel system.
Software encoded with Dolby Digital can
be identified with this mark.

To calculate the delay time
D1: Distance from front speakers
D2: Distance from surround speakers
D3: Distance from center speaker
Setting the center channel delay time (Dolby Digital only):
If D1 is equal to or Set to 0 ms.

Setting the surround channel delay time:

Dolby Pro Logic is a decoding system that
was developed to get a better sense of
presence from sources encoded with
Dolby Surround. The balance of sound
has been improved by the addition of a
separate center speaker channel.
