CHANGING THE ENCRYPTION PASSPHRASE

The encryption passphrase allows devices to securely communicate over the network by enabling encryption. To safeguard the network against Pelco devices that are part of another network, change the passphrase.

To specify a new encryption passphrase, select Custom and type your personalized passphrase in the empty text box. The passphrase can be any combination of alphanumeric characters. The passphrase must contain at least 8 characters and no more than 63 characters.

To avoid breaking communication to devices already connected to the EW5001, the encryption passphrase needs to be changed for each device separately. To change the passphrase, do the following:

1.Using a Web browser, open each of the devices (EW5301T wireless video encoders or EW5002 wireless access point/bridge) connected to the EW5001. Refer toUsing a Web Browser on page 6.

2.Change the timeout settings of all devices, including the EW5001, to allow enough time to change the passphrase for each device. Refer to Changing the Timeout Setting on page 8.

3.Using the Web browser, set the new passphrase for the first EW5301T or EW5002.

a.Click in the Encryption Passphrase box, and then type the passphrase. Be sure to use more than 8 characters and fewer than 63 characters.

b.Click the Test Settings button.

c.Repeat these steps for all of the other connected devices.

4.After changing the encryption passphrase for all of the connected devices, change the passphrase for the EW5001; click the Test Settings button.

5.To avoid exceeding the fail-safe timeout settings, go back to each of the connected devices in the same order in which you changed the passphrase in step 3; click the Save Settings button for each device.

6.Click the Save Settings button for the EW5001.

CHANGING THE ENCRYPTION TYPE

The available encryption type settings are Pelco, WPA-PSK, and Disabled. The default encryption type is Pelco.

WARNING: Selecting Disabled may put your network security at risk. Disabling encryption is not recommended.

To avoid breaking communication to devices already connected to the EW5001, the encryption type needs to be changed for each device separately. To change the encryption type, do the following:

1.Using a Web browser, open each of the devices (EW5301T wireless video encoders or EW5002 wireless access point/bridge) connected to the EW5001. Refer toUsing a Web Browser on page 6.

2.Change the timeout settings of all devices, including the EW5001, to allow enough time to change the encryption type for each device. Refer toChanging the Timeout Setting on page 8.

3.Using the Web browser, set the new encryption type for the first EW5301T or EW5002.

a.Open the Encryption Type drop-down box by clicking the down arrow.

b.Select an encryption type from the drop-down box.

c.Click the Test Settings button.

d.Repeat these steps for all of the other connected devices.

4.After changing the encryption type for all of the connected devices, change the encryption type for the EW5001; click the Test Settings button.

5.To avoid exceeding the fail-safe timeout settings, go back to each of the connected devices in the same order in which you changed the passphrase in step 3; click the Save Settings button for each device.

6.Click the Save Settings button for the EW5001.

EW5001 specifications

The Pelco EW5001 is a robust and highly advanced network video encoder designed for a variety of surveillance applications. This device is known for its reliability, flexibility, and a host of features tailored for efficient video management in security environments.

One of the primary features of the EW5001 is its capability to encode high-definition video streams. Supporting resolutions up to 1080p, it ensures that users receive clear and detailed images, which is essential for effective monitoring and identification purposes. The encoder leverages H.264 compression technology, which significantly reduces the bandwidth required for video transmission while maintaining high quality, allowing for more efficient storage and streaming.

Another key aspect of the EW5001 is its multi-stream output functionality. This means that each channel can stream multiple video streams simultaneously at different resolutions and bit rates, which accommodates various network conditions and user needs. Security personnel can monitor live feeds in real-time, while also saving high-resolution recordings for future review.

The easy integration of the Pelco EW5001 into existing network infrastructures is facilitated by its support for ONVIF (Open Network Video Interface Forum) protocols. This interoperability allows it to seamlessly connect with a wide range of third-party cameras and video management systems, enhancing the system's overall versatility.

For connectivity, the EW5001 is equipped with both Ethernet and PoE (Power over Ethernet) capabilities. This feature simplifies installation by allowing the device to receive both power and data over a single cable, reducing clutter and minimizing installation time. Moreover, built-in alarm input and output ports offer additional functionality for triggering alerts or integrating with other security systems when specific events occur.

In addition to its performance features, the Pelco EW5001 comes with advanced security measures. These include user authentication, encrypted transmission, and secure access protocols to help protect sensitive video data along its journey from the encoder to storage or viewing platforms.

With its combination of high-quality video encoding, flexible streaming options, easy integration, and robust security features, the Pelco EW5001 stands out as a vital component in modern surveillance setups, meeting the demands of various sectors including retail, transportation, and critical infrastructure protection. Its reliability and performance make it an excellent choice for those seeking to enhance their security systems with state-of-the-art technology.
