The camera back connects to the computer via an IEEE 1394 connection. This new, extremely fast connection does not have many of the limitations of the SCSI technology used in previous digital cameras. Many of the problems related to SCSI such as setting ID numbers, termination, and not being able to “hot-plug” (having to shut down before unplugging the device) are nonexistent with 1394. The cable length can be extended using the Phase One Power Conditioners to move the camera far from the computer.
