Gamma

Ljusintensiteten på skärmen som en funktion av den inmatade spänningen följer ungefär en exponentialfunktion av den inkommande videosignalen, där exponenten kallas gammavärdet.

Grayscale (gråskala)

En akromatisk skala som sträcker sig från svart genom en serie av successivt ljusare nyanser av grått till vitt. En sådan serie kan bestå av steg, som förefaller vara på lika avstånd från varandra. Om analog-/digitalomvandlaren har 8 bitar, kan bildskärmen visa högst 28 = 256 nivåer. För en färgskärm har varje RGB-färg 256 nivåer. Det innebär att totalt antal färger som kan visas är 256x256x256 = 16,7 miljoner.
