SUse only a voltages upply as shown on the
nameplateof the unit.
SAvoiddanger ous situations. Do not use in
presence of flammable liquids or gases to
avoid creating a fire or explosion and/or
causing damage to unit.
SAvoiddangerous envir onments. Do not use
in unventilated areas or where dust or ex-
plosive vapors can build up.
SToreduce the ris k of electric shock, the pow-
erheadmay have a po larized plug (one blade
isw ider than the other); if so, it will require the
use of a polarized extension cord. The ap -
pliance plug will fit into a polarized extens ion
cordonly one way. Ifthe plug does not fit fully
into the extension cord, reverse the plug. If
theplug still does not fit, obtain a correct pola r-
ized extension cord. A p olarized extension
cord will require the use of a polarized wall
outlet. T his plug will fit into the polarized wall
outlet only one way. If plug does not fit fully
into the wall outlet, reverse the plug. If it still
does not fit, contact a qualified elec trician to
install the proper wall outlet. Do not change
the equipment plug, extension cord recep-
tacle, or extension cord plug in any way.
SToreduce risk o f electrical shock, use exten-
sion cords specifically marked as suitable for
outdoorappliances having electr ical rating not
less than the rating of unit. Cord must be
marked with suffix “W--A” (in Canada “W”).
Make sure your extension cord is in good
condition. Inspect extension cor d before use
and replace if damaged. Do not use a dam-
agedcord. C ord insulation must be intact with
no cracks or deterioration. P lug connectors
must be undamaged. The extension cord
used to reach the power source must be
heavye nough to carry c urrent from the power
source the full length of the extension cord to
the unit. An undersized extension cord will
causea drop in line voltage r esulting in loss of
power and overheating. If in doubt, use the
next heavier gauge. The lower the gauge
number,t he heavier the cord.
SDo not use multiple cords.
SDonot abus e cord. Never carry the unit by
the extension cord or yank extension cord
to disconnect unit. To unplug, grasp the
plug, not the cord. Do not use cord as a han-
dle, close a door on cord, or pull cord
aroundshar p edges or corners. Do not ex-
pose cords to heat, oil, or water.
SKeepthe ext ension cord clear of operator and
obstacles at all times.
STiecord to c ord retainer and connect to re-
cessedplug as s hownin this manual to pre-
vent damage to unit and/or extension cord
and to reduce the possibility of the exten-
sioncord disconnec ting from the unit during
operation.
SDonot attempt to repair unit. Inspectthe insu -
lation and connectors on the powerhead and
extension cord before each use. If there is
any damage, do not use until damage is re-
paired by your authorized service dea ler.
SDo not use the powerhead if the switch
does not turn the unit on and offproper ly.
Have the unit repaired by your authorized
service dealer.
SDo not use with damaged cord or plug. If
powerheadis not work ing as it should, has
been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or
dropped into water, return it to your autho-
rizedservice dealerfor repair.
SAvoidunintentional starting of the unit. Nev-
er carry unit with your finger on the s witch.
Bes ure the switch is in the off position and
never touch the switch when c onnecting
extension cord.
SUnplug the unit from the power source w hen
notin use, befor e servicing, and when chang-
ing accessories and/or attachments .
SAvoidany body cont act with any grounded
conductor, such as metal fences, or pipes,
to avoid the possibility of electric shock.
SGround Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI)
protections hould be provided on the circuit
oroutlet to be used for the powerhead. Re-
ceptacles are available having built-in
GFCI protection and may be used for this
measure of safety.

UNIT/MAINTENANCE SAFETY

WARNING : Disconnect powerhead
spark plug (or disconnec t powerhead from pow-
er source) before performing maintenance.
SInspect entire unit before each use. Replace
damaged parts. Check for fuel leaks. Make
sure all fasteners are in place and s ecurely
fastened.
SMaintainunit acc ording to recommended pro-
cedures.
SUseonly recommended Poulan PRO par ts
andac cessories.
SBe sure chain stops moving when engine
idles (see CARBURETOR ADJUST-
MENTS section of powerhead manual).
SKeep others away when making carburetor
adjustments.
SNever start the unit wit h the clutch housing re -
moved. The clutc h can fly off and cause seri-
ous injury.
SKeepthe handles driy, clean, and free of oil or
fuel mixture.
SKeepfuel and oil c aps, screws, and f asteners
securely tightened.
SHave all maintenance and service not ex-
plainedin this man ual performed by an autho-
rized service dealer.

OPERATEYOUR PRUNER SAFELY

SOperatethe pruner only in a well-ventilat ed
outdoor area.
SDo notus e a pruner to cut down trees or any
portion of the tree trunk.
SOnly use for pruning limbs or branches
overheadnot greater than 6 inches ( 15c m)
indiameter.
SDo not cut small brush and s aplings with the
pruner. Slender matter may catc h in the chain
and be whipped toward you, pulling you off
balance.
SMake sure the chain will not make contact
with any object while starting the engine.
Never try to start the unit when the guide
bar is in a cut.
