BAR AND CHAIN LUBRICATION

The bar and chain require lubrication. The
chainoiler prov ides continuous lubrication to
thechain and guide bar. Be sure to fill the bar
oil tank before use (Capacity = 4.6 fl. oz.).
Lack of oil will quickly ruin the bar and chain.
Toolittle oil will cause ov erheating shown by
smokecoming from the c hain and/or discolor-
ationof the bar. The oil output is automatically
metered during operation.
Genuine Poulan or Poulan PRO bar and
chainoil is rec ommended toprotec t your unit
against excessive wear from heat and fric -
tion. Poulan or Poulan PRO oil resis ts high
temperature thinning. If Poulan or Poulan
PRO barand chain oil is not available, use a
goodgr ade SAE 30 oil.
SNever use waste oil for bar and c hain lubri-
cation.
SAlways stop the engine before removing
the oil cap.

INSTALLINGATTACHMENT

HANGER

Anattachment hanger is prov ided for storage
when attachment is not in use.
Toinstall hanger on attachment:
1. Remov e the shaft cap from t he attachment
(if present) and discard.
2. Pr ess and hold the locking/releas e button.
3. Pus h hanger onto the attachment until the
locking/release button snaps into the hole.

DANGER: Donot extend arms above
shoulders while pruning. Do not stand be-
neath branch being cut.
WARNING : Always wear head, eye,
hearing, foot and body protection to reduce
the risk of injury when operating this unit.
Whenoperating unit , clip shoulder strap onto
clamp,s tand as shown and check for the fol-
lowing:
SExtendy our left arm and hold assist handle
with your left hand.
SHold throttle grip with your right hand with
finger on throttle trigger.
SKeep engine end below waist level.
SKeep shoulder strap pad centered on your
left shoulder and danger sign centered on
your back.
SMaintain full weight of tool on your left
shoulder.

PRUNING

WARNING : Be alert for and guard
againstk ickback. D o not allow the moving c hain
to contact any other branches o r objects at the
nose of the guide bar when pruning. Allowing
such contact can result in ser ious injury.

IMPORTANTPOINTS

SWork slowly, keeping both hands firmly
grippedon the pruner. Maintain secure foot-
ingand balanc e.
SPlan cut carefully. Check direction branc h
will fall.
SWatch out for springpoles. Springpoles are
small size limbs which can catc h the chain
and whip toward you or pull you off balance.
Use extreme caution when cutting small size
limbs or slender material.
SWatch out for branches immediately behind
thebra nch being pruned. Ifthe chain hits the
rear branch, damage to the unit may occur.
SBe alert for springback. Watch out for
branches that are bent or under pressure.
Avoid being struck by the branch or the
prunerw hen the tension in the wood fibers
is released.
SKeep a clear work area. Frequently c lear
branches out of the way to avoid tripping
over them.
SLongbr anches should be removed in sev-
eral pieces.

PRUNING TECHNIQUE

When ready to cut, accelerate to full thrott le
and apply a light cutting pressure. DO NOT
use back and forth sawing action.
