DOWN MIX Mode

The RDV-1080 can provide fully decoded 5.1 channel surround signals at the analog audio outputs. To take full advantage of this decoded signal, the preamp or amplifier receiving it should be equipped with 5.1 channel analog audio inputs. If not, the RDV-1080 can “downmix” the full surround sound signal to a signal the preamp or surround processor can handle. This setting only affects the analog output signal when playing a DVD Video disc with multichannel surround audio. Choose the setting that best matches your system.

Lo/Ro: Downmixes the 5.1 channel signal to a conventional 2-channel stereo sig- nal. Use this setting to send the analog audio signal to a preamp, TV, or recorder with conventional two-channel stereo input and no surround sound decoding capability.

OFF: Supplies the full 5.1 channel signal to the analog audio outputs. Use this setting for surround processors that have 5.1 channel audio inputs. This setting must be used when you select the 5.1 CHANNEL or EXPERT setting in the SPEAKER SETTING preferences.

This setting gives you the option to override these settings and treat all speakers as “large” when playing DTS-encoded disc. When playing a Dolby Digital DVD Video Disc, the RDV-1080 can compress the dynamic range of the audio signal. This reduces the difference between quiet sounds and loud sounds. It may be desirable if your system is routinely taxed by loud passages or for listening at low volume settings. Choose the setting that best matches your system.
