Aukon kotelossa on useita lamelleja. Lamellit liikkuvat yhtä aikaa ja säätelevät aukon keskiosan läpi pääsevän valon määrää. Lamellien määrä vaikuttaa myös valon muotoon yökuvia otettaessa. Jos aukossa on parillinen määrä lamelleja, valo jakautuu parilliseen määrään alueita. Jos lamellien määrä on pariton, alueiden määrä on kaksi kertaa lamellien määrä.
