Nejlepší způsob, jak ochránit monitor před efektem přetrvání obrazu, je nastavit počítač nebo systém na používání spořiče obrazovky v době, kdy jej nepoužíváte.

K přetrvání obrazu nedochází, pokud je panel LCD provozován při běžných podmínkách.

Běžnými podmínkami se rozumí neustále se měnící obraz. Pokud je na panelu LCD po dlouhou dobu zobrazen statický obraz (více než 12 hodin), může dojít k malému rozdílu napětí mezi elektrodami ovlivňujícími tekuté krystaly (LC) v pixelu. Rozdíl v napětí mezi elektrodami se postupem času zvyšuje, čímž dojde k naklonění tekutého krystalu. Pokud k tomu dojde, při změně obrazu je stále viditelný předchozí obraz.

Aby k takové situaci nedošlo, musí být snížen rozdíl v napětí.
